Mud Pump

Mud pump is a kind of specialized machinery used for draining mud. During the process of drilling, the mud pump works to transfer washing fluids such as mud or water to the drilling hole. Hence, it is an important part of drilling equipment.
A mud pump, as a reciprocating piston/plunger device, is designed to circulate drilling fluid under high pressure down the drill string and back up the annulus. The pump comes in a variety of sizes and configurations, while the typical petroleum drilling rig generally uses the triplex (three piston/plunger) design.

Classification
By type: the commonly used type is piston type or plunger type mud pump.
By cylinder: According to the number of cylinders, there are single-cylinder type, double-cylinder type, and 3-cylinder type mud pump.
By mode of action: In terms of action, there are single-acting and double-acting types. The single-acting mud pump conducts pumping and draining once within a cycle of reciprocating motion of the piston, and the double-acting type, does pumping and draining twice in a cycle.

Features
1. Mud pump is suitable for grout with high thickness and high viscosity (< 10000PaS) or that contains particles.
2. The pump provides stable liquid flow, without overflowing, pulsation, or stirring and shearing of the slurry.
3. The discharge pressure is unrelated to rotation speed. The pump may maintain high discharge pressure even there is low liquid flow.
4. The flow is directly proportional to the rotation speed, and can be regulated by gear shifting mechanism and variable speed motor.
5. With high suction capacity, the mud pump can be directly used for pumping liquid without the use of bottom valve.
6. The mud pump is reversible, and thus flow direction can be adjusted by changing the direction of pump. Hence, the pump is suitable for pipes which need washing in two opposite directions.
7. Stable operation with low vibration noise.
8. Simple structure, easy assembly and maintenance.
